AH Community Leadership Award
About the award: The American Humanics Leadership Award is designed to recognize students who are committed to careers in the non-profit and public service sectors and to provide opportunities for recipients to develop applied leadership skills. Two students will be selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship. $500 will be distributed upon notification of the award. After careful review of the recipients proven commitment to the requirements, an additional $500 will be distributed. (May have opportunity to renew.)
Eligibility: All applicants must be an active member of the UNT American Humanics Student Association for at least one full semester, have an up to date on-line profile, demonstrate a willingness to take on leadership roles within the American Humanics Student Association, and have a current minimum GPA of 3.0. (This need not be a cumulative GPA).
Requirements: Students who receive the award must be pursuing American Humanics Non-profit Management Certification, take and active leadership role in the American Humanics Student Association (committee chair or executive committee position), earn 15 leadership points per semester, and serve as a promoter of the UNT American Humanics program. Students must be able to commit to one academic year of leadership.
Application: Submit a copy of your current online profile and résumé with your responses to the following questions to the American Humanics Academic Advisor no later than 5:00pm on Monday, April
7, 2008. Answers to each question should be typed in 12-point font, double spaced and no more than one page in length.
1. Leadership development is a primary function of this award. Please describe a leadership experience you have had and explain how you used your strengths to contribute and the lessons you learned along the way. Additionally, describe leadership skills you would like to develop.
2. Service to the community is a key component of the American Humanics Program at UNT. Describe a service experience in which you demonstrated leadership and how that experience shaped your view of community service.
3. Please describe your experience with American Humanics. How have you contributed to the organization and how have you benefited from your affiliation?
