The 1990 census counted some 11,000 residents in Mazamitla, a picturesque mountain village that is called the little Switzerland of Mexico or Suiza Mexicana. It is 122 kilometers from Guadalajara. The ride south to Mazamitla brings one on the southside of Lake Chapala.
