Join about 200 participants living in, seeking, or simply interested in intentional community.  Over 20 communities will be represented--large, small, rural, urban, spiritual, secular, tightly communal, and loosely cooperative. There will be structured workshops and sharing circles, but everything is optional. There will be plenty of time to just hang out, meet people, network and play together.

Intentional communities challenge many of the fundamental assumptions and practices of mainstream culture.  When you come to the Communities Conference, you can expect to have your political, social, economic and cultural ideas of what's "normal" challenged.

Please join us in the Virginia countryside, at 35-year old Twin Oaks Community, one of the best-known intentional communities in the country, and help us create community.

***THE PROGRAM***

Workshops include topics like group decision-making, sustainability, intentional relationships, alternative building, creating healthy culture, group living skills, and more.
"Meet the communities" is an introduction to communities attending the gathering, a chance to meet and talk with members, and time for community representatives to meet with other communities in their region to discuss strengthening of connections and increased mutual support.
Saturday night will hold the annual dessert party, benefit auction, sharing stage and dance party at Twin Oaks' main community building.
Open Space on Sunday morning for participants to give informal workshops, joining together around shared passions.
Other evening activities may include community storytelling, fire circle, acoustic music, and more.
You can also enjoy the river and mudpit, leisurely walks in the woods, or the casual company of other conference participants.
Tours of Twin Oaks will be offered throughout the weekend. A tour at our neighboring community Acorn will be offered on Sunday.

BENEFIT AUCTION:  As one of the conference events, we will be holding a fast-
paced,  high-energy benefit auction for the Fellowship for Intentional
Community, publisher of the new Communities Directory. Proceeds will help
the FIC continue to bring the exciting news of community to a world hungry for
it. You can help in two ways: 1) bring items to donate to the auction--
products, crafts, services that can be delivered locally, a weekend stay for two
at your luxurious home... use your imagination! 2) bring your wallet--there will
be bargains galore, and every dollar spent will be used to make community
that much more accessible to those seeking it.
